PT Skin IOSOL, used by health professionals as an external diagnostic and prophylactic iodine skin test.
PT Skin IOSOL is 10% iodine and ammonium iodide, combined and proportioned by a special process making it a water-soluble compound.
The “skin test” is a technique to determine iodine absorption and metabolic deficiency of iodine. This technique, which acts as a test as well as a treatment, is easy to use.
Apply tincture of iodine (PT Skin IOSOL) directly to the skin.
To determine iodine deficiency and treatment use the following technique:
With the applicator rod apply PT Skin
IOSOL to an upper thigh or low abdomen in a 3-inch square patch.
Take note of the length of time it takes for the brown stain to disappear or significantly lighten. When the stain disappears, continue applying the PT Skin IOSOL, rotating areas of application each time.
•If the “brown” stain fades in 6 hours or less, it indicates that iodine is not sufficient to normalize thyroid secretion to the cells. Reapply whenever the skin is clear, for example; if absorption occurs in two (4-6) hours, reapply within the 6-hour span of time. (Even if the patient is taking other thyroid products to stimulate the thyroid gland, lack of iodine will prevent proper utilization of these products.)
•If the “brown” stain is still apparent after 6 hours, the thyroid is more likely to be functioning normally. In this case, discontinue application, as it is an indication that iodine levels are normal. (The longer the stain remains, the less iodine is needed.)
•Recheck iodine absorption once per month. Repeat the process as above to see if the iodine patch fades in 6 hours or less.
